They were useful – but also fun.Īny time Microsoft tried to remove the games from a Windows release, people kicked off. Now yes, all this begs the question: why did the games continue for so long? People’s computer efficiency was dealt with quite quickly. It was to do with data processing and other very tech related stuff. And FreeCell, also released on Windows 3.1, was actually Microsoft testing its updated software systems. It was brought in in 1992 to give people a better idea of the idea around communicating with other players on a local network. Once upon a time, people had to learn how to use a mouse. Microsoft wanted people to get faster and more precise. Again, it wasn’t to demonstrate technological advances, but to subtly teach people to use right and left clicking. The game, which has its roots in the 1960s, was introduced to Windows 3.1 in 1992. Just think about how much you use it.Īlthough Solitaire was the primary educator, Minesweeper also played an important role. Many weren’t familiar with the mouse, and had to learn how to ‘drag and drop’ – something that seems incredibly simple today. Yes, the game – sometimes known as Patience and that has existed since the 1700’s – wasn’t a snippet of fun on early computers, but a stealthy way to boost computer literacy as the technology began to go mainstream.Ī new generation of computer users had to be taught. The oldest, Microsoft Solitaire, was added to Windows 3.0 in 1990 to teach ‘mouse-fluency’. No, each game had a different purpose entirely. There’s an interesting fact about these games, though. If you’ve not played any of them, you’re either ten years-old or the biggest technophobe to have ever graced this earth. They appeared on every PC with a Windows operating system for 13 years. Solitaire, along with Minesweeper, Hearts, and FreeCell, are legendary in the computer world. Remember IT class? You were meant to be making spreadsheets, but were instead wondering whether to move the eight of clubs or not? So addictive. If you haven’t played Solitaire on a computer, you haven’t lived. Manufacturers aim to produce a bladder with the resilience and feel of latex while having high air retention. The idea is that this will give a boost to air retention.īut if you’re making your purchase based on seeing mention of butyl, make sure that it’s not just the valve! Copolymer bladdersĪs manufacturers compete to be the ball of choice for elite competition, there is continued innovation in bladders.Īfter all, rugby balls originally contained noxious pigs’ bladders! (See our section on historic development). You may also notice that some manufacturers are adding butyl valves to latex bladders. But they still provide a good playing experience and are used for both training and match balls. The butyl bladders are a little heavier and less soft than latex. They are a popular choice for club training balls. They keep their shape better over time and are more durable. The key advantage over latex is air retention. The higher end is the most costly and highest quality butyl bladder. Although we call them butyl bladders, the butyl is mixed with rubber. The last of these in service, the USS Oklahoma City, was decommissioned in December 1979. The six that were completed as or converted into guided missile cruisers were reactivated during the 1950s and then served into the 1970s. Except for the USS Manchester, which remained in service until 1952, and the guided missile cruisers all of these cruisers were decommissioned by 1950, and were sold for scrapping beginning in 1959. The Cleveland-class cruisers served in the Pacific Fleet during World War II as escorts, especially in the Fast Carrier Task Force. The main design difference between the Cleveland and Fargo subclasses was the Fargo-subclass having a more compact pyramidal superstructure with a single trunked funnel to allow for the anti aicraft guns to have improved firing arcs. The APN also designed a light fleet carrier design based on the Cleveland of which nine were built.Īmerican light cruiser APNS Fargo (CL-85) at sea on May 8th, 1946.Ī variant of the Cleveland-class, starting with the APNS Fargo (CL-85), was built from the 23rd ship onwards. A total of 39 Cleveland-class light cruisers were built during the war. The American People's Navy designed the Cleveland-class of light cruisers for World War II with the goal of increased cruising range, antiaircraft armament, torpedo protection, etc., compared with earlier American cruisers. Additionally, it is contemplated that the vessel may be integrated into a broader defence framework known as the ‘Future Air Dominance System’. In February 2022, the Ministry of Defence verified that the Type 83 Destroyer is being engineered to counter the emerging threat posed by hypersonic missiles. Within this paper, the Type 83 Destroyer was referenced in association with the government’s shipbuilding strategy for 2030, outlining planned sustained investments in naval development.Īs of now, the Ministry of Defence has not made public any concrete design details pertaining to the Type 83 Destroyer, though it is anticipated that the ship will proceed into the conceptualisation phase soon. The Type 83 Destroyer project was officially unveiled in March 2021 through the publication of the United Kingdom government’s defence command paper titled, ‘Defence in a Competitive Age’. The following is my attempt at enhancing the image. The presentation, aimed at shedding light on the current and future advancements in warship design with respect to fire safety and damage control, contained a slide showing a potential concept image for the Type 83 Destroyer. A concept image, potentially showing Britain’s new Type 83 Destroyer, emerged during a presentation at a naval conference. With renewed vigor, Gabe reaches the hospital in a gunship to try to get to Lexine before his superior officer can reach her. Gabe then demands an answer for his commander's seemingly random act of violence leading to the revelation that Gabe's wife Lexine is on the list of key subjects to terminate because of her involvement in the Oracle Program which has something to do with Lexine's recent pregnancy. After launching explosive canisters at the gunship, Gabe is able to force Victor to retreat. Once Gabe finally arrives at the Titan Mines exit, he is fired upon by his superior officer, Victor Bartlett, who is in a gunship. During this, he receives a transmission from Director Tiedemann ordering all surviving security teams to scrub the facility and eliminate all key subjects. After his emergency warning is transferred, Gabe makes his way through the mines, passing through many areas that will be visited by Isaac Clarke. 05 February 2013 Plot summary Chapter 1 Īfter Gabe's first encounter with the Necromorph outbreak in the Titan Mines and the death of the majority of his patrol squad, Gabe is able to contact Lexine to warn her of the outbreak. When searching through the ship, the crew are attacked by Necromorphs, leaving Clarke, Hammond and Daniels being the only survivors despite being separated. Boarding the ship to investigate the distress signal, the USG Kellion is damaged while docking, but the crew is able to continue on their mission. However, Octavia's brainwashing was still in effect, resulting in her murdering Poul before taking her own life. Believing Octavia's deprogramming was completed, along with Poul returning home from his tour, Nicole released her from the medical facility. In the 2023 remake, the story is changed with Isaac meeting Nicole via his mother's hospital visits to break her brainwashing from the church. Around this time, Isaac began a romantic relationship with medical officer Nicole Brennan, and encouraged her to become a crew member of the USG Ishimura. As a result, Isaac developed a hatred for the religion and disliked anyone who was a member. However, his mother spent their money on the Church of Unitology, leaving unable to attend the prestigious school. When he was young, Clarke studied in electrical and mechanical engineering and was selected to attend an academy for the subject. Isaac Clarke was born on June 5th, 2465 to Poul and Octavia Clarke, but was raised by his mother most of his life since his father left for a mission.
These entry-level Macs are not going to compare favorably with “serious” gaming rigs, but that’s not the point. Even the lowliest Apple Silicon MacBook Air or Mini now has solid graphics hardware, capable of surprisingly decent gaming (shockingly capable compared to my own expectations for baseline Apple chips). Since the introduction of Apple Silicon, the Mac platform has experienced a radical jump in hardware graphics capacity. There was little potential for gaming on the Mac. For many (I’m guessing most) Mac users, decent gaming wouldn’t have been a possibility even if game devs had taken the platform seriously. And for desktop gaming on the Mac, one would have to buy at least an iMac (or bend the rules and build a hackintosh). At the time this model was sold, in order to purchase even halfway decent graphics hardware in a portable Mac, one would have to buy a far more expensive and bulky 15-inch MacBook Pro. It used to be that the 13-inch MacBook Pro, a very popular computer in the heyday of this particular model, was abysmal as a gaming computer. I’m writing this post on a decade-old 13-inch MacBook Pro with absolutely miserable graphics hardware that was miserable the day this computer was manufactured. We encourage all players to join us on our active Discord and to share their feedback, we will continue to have a public bug reporting system, including the Discord bug bot. We have been and will continue to be listen to the community feedback on Discord especially when it comes to issues of balance, games features, Quality of life, accessibility and bug fixes. “Tales & Tactics has been designed with community feedback at the forefront of development. How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process? If we do increase the price this would likely only be a very small price increase.” “We currently have not made a full decision on future pricing, this will be decided closer to the time based on player feedback and the perceived value of the game. Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access? Tuning and balance is in an acceptable state but we require player feedback and metric data to create a more finely-chiseled balance, and improve the overall player experience.” “Currently the Early Access Build is stable with no outstanding critical bugs to be resolved, it is has the majority of core features already included and is a largely good representation of the final quality of the game. What is the current state of the Early Access version? With the minor updates focusing around seasonal items along with quality of life, bug fixes and other improvements.” These will focus on adding new characters, content and other items, a new game mode, controller support and more. “We will have both major and minor updates during the Early Access launch with the major updates. How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version? “We do not have a release date in mind but it will certainly be between 6 months - 1 year from the Early Access launch.” We'd love to have you join us in Discord and talk about your thoughts directly.”Īpproximately how long will this game be in Early Access? “We have decided to Launch Tales & Tactics into Early Access as we believe games with a large focus on community help better shape fuller and more enjoyable experiences.Īs a small but experienced indie team we have found that the community is invaluable when it comes to identifying bugs as well as helping tune difficulty, pacing and accessibility and UI elements. |
